Principal Test Engineer based in Motherwell

Our client is looking for a Principal Test Engineer to work on a permanent basis in Motherwell. The salary will be discussed and negotiated, depending on experience.

The Principal Test Engineer level will operate as the most senior level of the non-Management Test & Development Team. The Principal Test Engineer will be competent in all areas of ECH-UK product test and devlopment and will be a domain expert within the Engineering Centre Test Department for an element of machine testing and development (eg strain gauge testing, accelerated durability testing, reliability growth planning).

The Principal Test Engineer must be capable of providing excellent supervision, guidance and coaching to subordinate members of the Test & Development team. The Principal Test Engineer will also be expected to be capable of deputising for the Engineering Test Manager at company management-level meetings on occasion.

The Principal Test Engineer will normally work within the Engineering Centre Test & Development Team under the line management of an Engineering Centre Manager.


The main responsibilities of the role are:

· New product development Test & Development team leadership.

· Preparation of appropriate test plans in co-operation with both the Engineering Team & Test Centre Manager for confirmation of new vehicle designs ranging from vehicle sub-system changes right up to full vehicle.

· Functional testing of components and product systems both in-house and on-site

· Leadership of all aspects of ECH-UK vehicle testing as required. Specifically performance testing, strain gauge testing, durability testing and sub-system bench testing.

· Formulation of new & better test procedures to carry out the above activities.

· Derivation and creation of new Test Standards, in line with continuous improvement of ECH-UK Test practice.

· Preparation of Test Reports including pass/fail judgement decision making.

· Demonstration of “expert” level knowledge in one or more of the fundamental aspects of ECH-UK Test Centre operations.

· Be able to act as cross-alignment leader for EMEAR Engineering in the area of construction equipment testing and development.

· Must be willing to work overtime as necessary to support critical schedules.

You will be measured in terms of effectiveness via;

· Project timescales achieved

· Quality and reliability targets to be achieved

· Unit performance targets to be achieved

· Departmental objectives and targets to be achieved

If you want to apply for this role, you will need to have;

· Demonstrable record of achievement in a similar role within a construction equipment and/or agricultural equipment OEM and/or other mobile machinery OEM. Typically this will require 3~5 years working in the role.

· Demonstrate a record of high achievement in a Senior Test Engineer role. Typically this will require 3~5 years working in the role.

You will be required to travel within UK and Overseas throughout the year.

Assembly Inspector based in Motherwell

Assembly Inspector required to work on a temporary, but indefinite period. Client is based in Motherwell.

Overall purpose of the job is to carry out inspection and testing functions on trucks and parts to qualify that finished product consistently conforms to required standard and specification. You will be road testing trucks and completing required records. Carrying out paint inspection and piece part inspection where required. The assembly line will also require inspection and you will be issuing the relevant paperwork.

This role will be liaising with quality engineers and measuring performance via company quality measures and truck schedule and shipping measures.

To apply for this role, you will need to be a time served mechanical engineer and have a good telephone manner, product and industry knowledge and experience of using measuring equipment. You must be able to read and understand engineering drawings and be PC literate.

Cross area skills are advantageous (Assembly, Goods Inward etc).

The pay is £9.54ph on this temporary long-term contract.

Hours of work are: Monday to Thursday 07:45 - 16:15 / Friday 07:45 - 12:45.
Shifts may be required and you must be willing to be flexible.

Machine Shop Inspector - Motherwell based

Standards room / Machine Shop Inspector required for our client based in Motherwell. Ongoing maintenance and updating of calibration system in line with ISO. Stock control of Inspection materials and to raise appropriate purchase orders.

Main responsibilities will be to:
Carry out calibration / Inspection records
Ensure equipment due for external calibration is processed within time deadlines.
Stock control and ordering of materials
Liaise with quality engineers
Inspection of machine shop components and materials
Investigate problems i.e. components, machine errors
Liaise with engineering where required
Raise appropriate compliant paperwork
Train on CMM status and portage table

Qualifications for the role:
Must be a time served mechanical engineer
City and Guilds or Mechanical Engineering Technician

Skills and knowledge required for role:
Good telephone manner, machine shop product knowledge essentail
Skilled in the use of measuring equipment
Ability to read and understanding engineering drawings
Previous PC experience would be advantageous

Experience required for role:
Experience using measuring equipment
SAP system and gauge calibration would be advantageous

You will be working in a shift pattern, subject to change. You will be comfortable making decisions and using your own initiative and be flexible and willing to work within other areas of inspection, if required.

The position is permanent, rate of pay is £9.54 per hour.
